Position Overview: As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing individualized support to students, helping them navigate their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build positive relationships. Working closely with our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and therapeutic environment where every student feels valued and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, addressing their social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Implement personalized intervention plans tailored to each student's unique challenges and strengths.
- Foster positive relationships with students, offering empathy, encouragement, and guidance.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies for promoting students' mental well-being.
- Facilitate workshops and group activities focusing on topics such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, and self-esteem.
- Monitor and track students' progress, documenting observations and outcomes to inform ongoing support plans.
- Respond to crisis situations effectively, following established protocols and procedures.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey empathy and understanding.
- Understanding of mental health issues affecting young people and familiarity with relevant intervention strategies.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, demonstrating resilience and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant qualifications in mental health, counseling, social work, or a related field are advantageous but not essential.
