Learning Support Assistant – SEN Specialist Provision (Primary) – Outskirts of Winchester
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist primary provision located near Winchester. The successful candidate will support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, and medical conditions. This position is well suited to individuals with experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN), as well as those from care, support work, healthcare, or childcare backgrounds who are looking to transition into the education sector.
About the Setting
The school is a specialist primary provision catering to pupils with complex needs. It offers a structured and nurturing environment designed to support communication, sensory regulation, and personalised learning. The curriculum is highly individualised, promoting academic progress alongside the development of independence, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.
Staff collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of consistent, high-quality support tailored to each pupil’s individual requirements.
Role Overview
In this role, you will provide support to pupils with SEN on a one-to-one basis and in small group settings. You will assist them in accessing the curriculum, developing communication skills, and fostering independence. Pupils may present with sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, and a range of behavioural needs.
This position combines educational support with elements of personal care and therefore requires patience, consistency, and a proactive approach. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities

Provide individualised and small group support for pupils with ASD

Assist in the delivery of differentiated learning activities

Support the development of communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

Implement structured routines and behaviour support strategies

Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external specialists

Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Person Specification
-
Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential

Backgrounds in SEN, care, support work, healthcare, or education are advantageous

A calm, patient, and adaptable approach

Willingness to support both educational and personal care needs

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Availability for full-time, term-time work

An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
