Learning Support Assistant – SEN Specialist Provision (Primary) – Outskirts of Winchester
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist primary setting near Winchester, supporting pupils with additional needs including Autism, Learning Difficulties and Medical needs. This role is well suited to individuals with experience in special educational needs (SEN), as well as those from care, support work, healthcare or childcare backgrounds looking to transition into education.
About the Setting
The school is a specialist primary provision supporting pupils with complex needs. The environment is structured, nurturing and designed to support communication, sensory regulation and individualised learning. A highly personalised curriculum promotes academic development, independence, social skills and emotional wellbeing.
Staff work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide consistent, high-quality support tailored to each pupil’s needs.
Role Overview
You will support pupils with SEN on a one-to-one basis and in small groups within class, helping them to access learning, develop communication skills and build independence. Pupils may present with sensory sensitivities, communication difficulties and varying behavioural needs.
The role combines educational support with elements of care, requiring patience, consistency and a proactive approach. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and small group support for pupils with ASD

Assist in delivering tailored learning activities

Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation

Implement structured routines and behaviour support strategies

Work collaboratively with teaching staff and specialists

Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
Person specification

Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (not essential)

Backgrounds in SEN, care, support work, healthcare or education are desirable

A calm, patient and adaptable approach

Willingness to support both educational and care needs

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Full-time availability

Enhanced Child Workforce DBS or willingness to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
