Job description

Learning Support Assistants – September 2026 Start

Location: Andover
Hours: Monday–Friday, term time only
Pay: £14.25 per hour

We’re looking for Learning Support Assistants to join two specialist schools in Andover this September. The schools support pupils with SEN (including autism and complex needs) and SEMH needs, and offer structured, supportive environments where staff work closely together to help students grow academically, socially and emotionally.

The role
This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll support pupils with both learning and wellbeing. Day to day, you’ll:

  • Work with pupils 1:1 and in small groups

  • Support teachers and help adapt lessons

  • Keep pupils engaged and on track

  • Help develop communication, social and life skills

  • Support emotional regulation and behaviour

  • Help maintain a calm, safe and consistent classroom

  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral teams

In SEN settings, there’s a strong focus on routine and communication. In SEMH settings, it’s more about building trust, setting boundaries and being a consistent role model.

Who we’re looking for
We’re open to people from a range of backgrounds, including education, care, youth work, mental health, coaching or customer-facing roles.

You’ll need to be:

  • Patient, calm and reliable

  • A good communicator

  • Able to build positive relationships with young people

  • Interested in supporting additional needs

  • A team player who’s willing to learn

Experience in SEN or SEMH is helpful but not essential—full training and support will be provided.

A DBS check is required. If you’re looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference, apply with your CV.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
