Job description

Learning Support Assistant – SEMH Secondary Provision – Manchester

Location: South Manchester | Start: September 2025 | Pay: £90–£95 per day | Contract Type: Full-time

We are working in partnership with a specialist secondary provision in Manchester that caters for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This school offers a nurturing environment that focuses on helping young people re-engage with education, often following disrupted learning experiences.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support, often on a 1:1 or small-group basis. Your role will be to help students build confidence, manage emotions, and access the curriculum in a way that meets their individual needs.

Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Supporting learning across core subjects and practical lessons

  • Developing positive relationships to foster trust and emotional regulation

  • Working alongside SENCOs, therapists, and class teachers

  • De-escalating challenging behaviours and applying restorative strategies

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children or young people with additional needs – especially those with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or similar. You may have worked in education, care, youth work, or psychology settings. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for anyone passionate about making a genuine difference in pupils’ lives.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
