EAL Teaching Assistant
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated EAL Teaching Assistant to join the diverse and vibrant team at a client secondary school in central Manchester.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher to support students who are learning English as an additional language, providing individual and small group support to help them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate should expect to earn up to £15.75 per hour in this position (depending on experience).
The school is located within a 5-minute walk of the nearest public transport options (bus/tram) and also has a large onsite car park for staff members using a vehicle to travel.
This role starts after the summer holiday, on Monday 8th September, and will be ongoing until the end of the academic year (July 2026), however a successful candidate who excels in the school environment is very likely to be offered a permanent position, as this is an open vacancy.
Key Role Responsibilities:
- Supporting students who are learning English as an additional language, providing individual and small group support to help them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential
- Working closely with the class teacher to identify and address the needs of EAL students
- Developing and implementing strategies to support the language development of EAL students, including using visual aids, gestures, and other communication tools
- Encouraging and supporting students to engage with the curriculum and participate in classroom activities
- Monitoring and tracking the progress of EAL students, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers as appropriate
- Collaborating with other teaching assistants and staff members to provide a cohesive and effective approach to supporting EAL students
Additional Requirements:
- Experience of working with students who are learning English as an additional language
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, speak clearly, and use visual aids and gestures to support language development
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and parents/carers
- A willingness to undertake training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting EAL students

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
