Learning Support Assistant – Primary School, Burgess Hill, West Sussex
Contract Type: Fixed Term / Temporary
Working Pattern: Term Time Only, 5 Days per Week
Hours: Typically 6-7 hours per day (to be confirmed)
Salary: Competitive grade/scale depending on experience
Role Overview
An inclusive primary school in Burgess Hill is seeking a compassionate and reliable Learning Support Assistant to provide targeted support to pupils with additional needs including SEND. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo, you will help pupils access the curriculum and fully participate in school life in a nurturing environment. This temporary role offers an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team committed to pupil development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 or small group support tailored to individual pupil needs, including those with special educational, emotional, and social needs.
- Assist in implementing targets from individual education plans (IEPs) in liaison with teaching staff and the SENCo.
- Support pupils to engage effectively in class activities, promoting independence and confidence.
- Help prepare and adapt learning materials to meet pupils’ needs.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers to inform planning and interventions.
- Promote positive pupil behaviour and contribute to a constructive, inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate as part of the school team, working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Attend training and participate in meetings to support professional development and pupil progress.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience working with children in an educational support role is preferred.
- Good understanding of additional needs, including SEND, with empathy and patience.
- Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Relevant qualifications or training in education or SEND support are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
