Position: Head of DT – Food Technology
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner by negotiation)
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)
An ambitious and forward thinking secondary school in Harrow is seeking to appoint an outstanding qualified teacher (QTS essential) to lead its Design Technology department, with a specialism in Food Technology. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner ready to step into leadership or an established Head of Department looking for a new challenge.
The Role
As Head of DT, you will provide strategic leadership across the Design Technology curriculum, with a strong focus on Food Technology at KS3 and KS4. You will drive high standards of teaching and learning, ensure excellent outcomes for pupils and lead curriculum development that reflects creativity, innovation and real world application.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading and managing the DT department, including Food Technology
• Teaching Food Technology across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
• Designing and implementing an engaging and ambitious curriculum
• Monitoring pupil progress and raising attainment
• Coaching and developing departmental staff
• Managing departmental budgets, resources and health and safety compliance
• Promoting enrichment opportunities, competitions and cross curricular projects
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational leader who:
• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
• Has proven experience teaching Food Technology in a secondary setting
• Demonstrates strong subject knowledge and a passion for practical learning
• Has the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
• Shows a track record of improving pupil outcomes
• Maintains high expectations of behaviour and achievement
• Understands health, safety and food hygiene regulations within a school environment
Leadership experience is desirable, but we welcome applications from strong classroom practitioners ready to take the next step.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
