Job Opportunity: English Specialist Teaching Assistant at Ofsted Good Secondary School in Stockport

Are you passionate about English language and literature and eager to support students in their literacy development? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted Good secondary school in Stockport. This full-time position offers stability from after Easter until the end of the academic year, with the potential for permanent placement based on exceptional performance.

Role Overview: As an English Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students' literacy skills and helping them achieve success in their English studies. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Individualized Support: Providing targeted support to students who require additional assistance in reading, writing, comprehension, and literary analysis, both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  2. Curriculum Support: Assisting teachers in delivering engaging English lessons, preparing teaching materials, and facilitating activities to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of English language and literature.
  3. Differentiated Instruction: Supporting the implementation of differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students, ensuring that all students have access to appropriate challenges and support.
  4. Literary Exploration: Encouraging students to explore a variety of literary works, develop critical thinking skills, and express their ideas and opinions through written and oral communication.
  5. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assisting teachers in assessing student progress, collecting data, and providing feedback to inform teaching and learning strategies, interventions, and individualized support plans.
  6. Behaviour Management: Implementing positive behaviour management strategies to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting engagement, participation, and mutual respect among students.
  7. Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to develop and implement effective intervention strategies, share best practices, and support the overall development of students' literacy skills and confidence.

Requirements:

  • A strong passion for English language and literature and a desire to support students in their literacy development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students' literacy skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
