Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

A school in Blackburn who are currently working exclusively with Teaching Personnel have approached us to shortlist and appoint a Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child with ASD. The school is a Junior School and located in the Blackburn area, easily commutable by car, train and bus; the school is located approximately 10 minutes from the town centre and 8 minutes from the M65 junctions. The school is larger than most schools in the local area as they are three form-entry so you will be well supported by a competent Senior Leadership Team including a dedicated SENCO. The catchment area consists mainly of children from 'socially deprived backgrounds' and so the school are keen to implement a strong and consistent behaviour policy which is working well in school.

The child who requires support is high on the Autistic Spectrum and as a result he will struggle on a daily basis to work in the classroom. The class teacher plans structured activities around his social and sensory needs, however they are not able to meet all his needs without a 1:1 support assistant. As the 1:1 support assistant, you will be expected to work in and out of the classroom, differentiating the Curriculum to meet the individual needs of the child. The needs vary on a daily basis depending on how well his needs are supported. If the needs of the child are not met then there is the possibility that behaviour may become an issue. It is therefore important that you are flexible in your working day and you can confident deal with challenging behaviour, sometimes this behaviour will be physically aggressive.

The working hours for the role will run from the Spring 2 term and continue from 830-1530 each day. The SENCO is keen to meet applying candidate next week with the view to starting on Monday 19th February. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is looking for a new challenge in a mainstream primary school
