Position: Business Manager
Location: Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Start Date: April/September 2025 (Earlier start desirable)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
A highly reputable and thriving boys' secondary school in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Manager to join their dedicated team. Role Overview:
The Business Manager will play a critical role in the strategic and operational management of the school’s financial, administrative, and support functions. Reporting directly to the Headteacher, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of resources, contributing to the strategic direction of the school, and supporting the delivery of high-quality education to students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee the school’s budget, manage financial planning, and ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Strategic Planning: Work alongside the senior leadership team to develop and implement the school’s strategic objectives.
- HR & Administration: Manage administrative staff and support HR functions including recruitment, payroll, and compliance.
- Facilities Management: Ensure the school’s premises are maintained to a high standard, managing contracts, health and safety compliance, and site development projects.
- Income Generation: Identify and develop opportunities for income generation, including fundraising, lettings, and grant applications.
- Governance Support: Provide administrative support to the governing body, including preparing reports and attending meetings as required.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience: Proven track record in business management, preferably within an educational setting.
- Qualifications: Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CSBM, DSBM, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
- Financial Acumen: Strong financial management skills, including budget planning and reporting.
- Leadership: Effective leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and manage staff teams.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- IT Proficiency: Confident use of financial management software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Commitment: A proactive approach, with a commitment to contributing to the school’s vision and values.
