Behaviour Teaching Personnel - Keynsham

I am working with an SEN department in a secondary school in Keynsham where the school is in real need for behaviour specialist TAs.

The school as a whole doesn't have an issue with behaviour but with every school there are pockets of very disruptive behaviour and these pupils need 1:1 support. Therefore you need experience with challenging behaviour as, to put it bluntly, these children will show their frustrations aggressively, verbally and in cases to be completely introverted.

You need to have the right balance in your approach. You must recognise the social difficulties the pupils face but not let them use that as an excuse to behaviour how they want. You need to be firm but calm. Confident but not aggressive. Patient, and above all committed. Some of these pupils will have attachment disorders and because of this, they need continuity.

So the school needs a full-time LSA (learning Support Assistant) to support pupils on a 1:1 basis straight away. It is likely for the whole academic year and there is an opportunity to go onto contract.

This will challenge you and frustrate you but there are rewards: you will work with one of the best SEN departments in the local area who really care and you will be able to see the fruits of your labour and make a real difference.
