Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Behaviour Support Worker required full time for a role within a Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Bradford.  This role is to commence ASAP – and a start date will be confirmed once pupils have returned to school.

The school provides 50 places for pupils aged 5-11 who have been unable to maintain a placement in their local school either due to a Social, Emotional or Behavioural difficulty or a medical condition

A strong staff team work collaboratively to provide a caring, friendly and safe environment for all pupils, enabling them to learn in a calm and secure atmosphere.

As a Support Worker, you will recognise that pupils placed on roll have experienced difficulties in responding to the day-to-day challenges of a mainstream school. You will deliver personalised support in extending pupils’ range of emotional, social and behavioural skills and achieving appropriate learning outcomes.

Class teachers work together in groups according to their class abilities. They meet regularly to discuss and plan engaging and exciting topics that provide as much curriculum coverage as possible. Curriculum areas that cannot be covered in this way are taught discretely. Topics are decided upon based on children’s interests and National Curriculum objectives. Opportunities for Speaking and Listening are optimised and basic skills, including scientific enquiry are delivered through this holistic approach to teaching.

Teaching staff do their upmost to engage the children and broaden their experiences of the topics via off site visits, visitors into the school and shared experiences of the wider school community. The successful applicant will share these values and will have a commitment to supporting the long term aims for students.

Children’s achievements are celebrated regularly in the school through displays in classrooms and shared areas, structured play and interactive displays, in topic work books and during weekly celebration assemblies.

In order to meet the Special Education Needs of pupils, the school works closely with a number of linked agencies. Agencies include:

  • Speech & Language Therapy Team
  • Educational Psychologists Team
  • School Nursing Team
  • Child & Adolescent Mental Health Team
  • Children’s Social Care
  • West Yorkshire Police
  • Educational Social Worker

The successful candidates will work closely with these key professionals to implement specialist programmes of intervention designed to meet pupils’ holistic needs. You will be expected to liaise with colleagues to ensure that key expectations are met.

Applications will be considered from those with experience within specialist education, or from individuals who may have experience in Care, or within secure or residential settings catering for young people or adults with complex behaviour needs.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
