Job description

Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary School in South Manchester

Support students to succeed beyond the classroom

A large and inclusive secondary school in South Manchester is looking to appoint a Behaviour Support Assistant to work closely with pupils who require additional support to engage in learning. This role would suit someone with a background in youth work, SEN support, or pastoral care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working 1:1 or with small groups of students who display challenging behaviour

  • Providing targeted support both in class and in a designated behaviour unit

  • Supporting the wider behaviour team and pastoral leads with reintegration strategies

  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation and social skills

  • Acting as a positive role model and building trusted relationships with students

Essential experience/qualities:

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a secondary school, PRU, or youth setting

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Experience supporting students with SEMH needs, trauma, or additional learning needs

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare

  • A proactive, resilient, and nurturing approach

In return, you will receive:

  • A long-term role (minimum one academic term, with potential for permanent placement)

  • Weekly pay between £85 and £100, dependent on experience

  • Access to free CPD including Team Teach and behaviour management training

  • Regular contact with your personal consultant at Teaching Personnel

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
