Date posted : 24/07/19
£121 - £150 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Do you have a talent for working with pupils with challenging behaviour?

Do you thrive when trying to understand the needs of those who have been marginalised by mainstream schools?

Are you empathetic and resilient?

We are working with a partnership school in West Cardiff to find a qualified SEN teacher who can work within one of the most challenging parts of the school

What?

Set in one of the most deprived areas of Cardiff, the pupils come from extremely challenging home lives and therefore often bring personal issues into school with them. As the teacher of the behaviour base, you will be well versed in the most challenging of behaviour and be confident assessing the individual needs of each pupil.

You will have a full time table and work with small groups of children with challenging behaviour and some SEN. The reading and writing abilities of the pupils is generally low for their age groups and you will need to adapt certain curriculums for them. Typically, class sizes have been no larger than 10 and a mix of KS3 and KS4 pupils. However, as this new behaviour provision is in its infancy, they could look to reduce or expand these numbers.

The role is full time and starts September. Full teaching duties will be expected.

Where?

The school has recently undergone a merging of two schools and has since overcome the various teething issues brought about with an amalgamation. As a result, they are looking for fresh, enthusiastic staff to join their brand new state of the art facilities immediately. The new school boasts incredible sports facilities, a beauty studio, drama and music units to help pupils integrate into extra curricular aspects of school life.

For this specific role, you will be working with small groups of pupils to lead intervention workshops. You will assist in booster Maths and English sessions and help pupils who struggle in mainstream classes.

The role requires someone from a highly patient and empathetic demeanour that will be able to understand the pupils key interests and form a strong bond. Ultimately, the ideal candidate will be a role model for the pupils who will encourage them and provide confidence in the mainstream classroom and in social interactions around the school while addressing their behaviour.

When?

The role starts September 2nd and we will be looking to conduct interviews between now and August 28th. If you are interested, then please send your CV through to jack.jenkins@teachingpersonnel immediately. The 2nd and 3rd are inset days where the school will induct you, the pupils will begin studies September 4th.

Following a satisfactory probationary period, the school will offer you a full time permanent contract at Christmas time.

About you

You will be experienced working with kids with challenging behaviour and SEN

You will be resilient, calm and be quick to think on your feet

Be a role model and highly understanding of the challenges these pupils face
