Behaviour Mentor
Teaching Personnel needs a Behaviour Mentor for a Durham secondary school. If you've worked with young people who struggle behaviourally - whether as a TA, youth worker, or similar - and you can stay calm when things kick off, this could suit you.
What you'll be doing:
Supporting students throughout the school day who find it hard to regulate their behaviour. That means de-escalating situations before they blow up, building trust with students who don't trust adults easily, working alongside teachers to keep lessons on track, and helping students develop better emotional and social skills. Some days you'll feel like you're getting somewhere. Other days will be tough.
You'll need:
- Real experience with challenging behaviour
- Patience and resilience
- Ability to stay calm and consistent when students are testing boundaries
- Team player attitude - you'll work closely with teachers and pastoral staff
Who this role is for:
People who've done youth work, TA roles in challenging schools, mentoring, or similar. You need to like work with challenging behaviours, not just tolerate them.
What's realistic:
Behaviour mentoring is demanding. You'll deal with conflict, frustration, and students who don't make progress in straight lines. But if you're the kind of person who gets satisfaction from finally connecting with and helping a student, it's genuinely rewarding work.
Pay: Competitive daily rate
Hours: Full-time 5 days a week

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
