1:1 ALN & ASD Support Assistant required for large Secondary School in Cardiff.

  • Supporting pupils with Additional learning needs & Autism aged 11-16 years old
  • Full Time Mon-Fri-8:20-3:15
  • Opportunity to work within a specialist facility attached to a mainstream Secondary school
  • Strong behaviour management skills required
  • Must have a nurturing and positive outlook on supporting additional learning needs

I have been tasked by a Secondary school in Cardiff to support in their recruitment as they look for a member of staff to support pupils with additional learning needs and autism within their designated unit. The school have highlighted the need for an extra member of staff for the new academic year starting in September 2020 to support a large support team within the unit. The level of support required would be primarily on a one-to-one basis and occasionally you will be working alongside the lead Teacher to support small groups of pupils with various lessons. Working with this support network you would look to aid the development on a social level therefore you would need to be approachable and have a positive out look towards young people with Special educational needs.

The school have stressed the importance of the right candidate having a resilient and positive approach to learning and although no previous experience of working with ASD is needed, a good level of understanding of autism is a requirement and the correct attitude is paramount.

The Position:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism (ASD) in KS3&KS4
  • Building rapport with young people quickly and effectively
  • Recognizing trigger points and crisis points for pupils that you work with
  • Gain experience and a better understanding of additional needs to support your future career
  • Working between the unit and the mainstream school for a variety of lessons

The Ideal candidate:

  • Teaching Assistants with SEN or similar experience
  • Psychology Graduates Social Workers and Youth Workers
  • Individuals with personal experience of SEN
  • Sports Coaches/Graduates
  • Respite Carers
  • Professionals that have worked with children aged 11-16 in a supportive setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
