Large Preston Primary School with committed SLT
A school in Preston who are currently working exclusively with Teaching Personnel have approached us to shortlist and appoint a Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child with ASD. The school is larger than the National Average for a Primary School and located in the Central Preston area, easily commutable by car, train and bus; the school is located approximately 10 minutes from the town centre and 5 minutes from the M65 junctions. The school is larger than most schools in the local area as they are two form-entry so you will be well supported by a competent Senior Leadership Team including a dedicated SENCO. The catchment area consists mainly of children from a range of social backgrounds and so the standards of children arriving in school is varied. By the end of school, the children will make GOOD to OUTSTANDING progress and leave school with higher than National Average levels in Maths, Reading and Writing.
The child who requires support in this role is high on the Autistic Spectrum and as a result he will struggle on a daily basis to work in the classroom. The class teacher plans structured activities around his social and sensory needs, however they are not able to meet all his needs without a 1:1 support assistant. As the 1:1 support assistant, you will be expected to work in and out of the classroom, differentiating the Curriculum to meet the individual needs of the child. The needs vary on a daily basis depending on how well his needs are supported. If the needs of the child are not met then there is the possibility that behaviour may become an issue. It is therefore important that you are flexible in your working day and you can confident deal with challenging behaviour, sometimes this behaviour will be physically aggressive. It would be beneficial if you have an in date TEAM TEACH qualification and experience of working with aggressive children. It would also be beneficial to have experience in SEN provisions also.
The working hours for the role will run from the Spring 2 term and continue from 830-1530 each day. The expectation is that the role will continue until at least the end of the academic year. The SENCO is keen to meet applying candidate next week with the view to starting on Monday 3rd September 2018. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is looking for a new challenge in a mainstream primary school. You must hold a Level 2 Teaching and Learning qualification or higher/equivalent.
