1:1 Non-Verbal Specialist Teaching Assistant – Wellingborough

Location: Wellingborough
Hours: Full-Time, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary to permanent opportunity

Are you an empathetic and experienced teaching assistant with a passion for supporting non-verbal children?
Do you have the skills to help a pupil access learning through alternative communication and consistent 1:1 support?

We are looking for a committed 1:1 Non-Verbal Specialist Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive and inclusive school in Wellingborough, starting as soon as possible. This is a full-time role providing personalised support to a non-verbal pupil with additional needs.

The Role:

  • Supporting a non-verbal pupil on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day

  • Using alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, visual aids)

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt lessons and track progress

  • Promoting engagement, independence and emotional regulation

  • Providing a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with non-verbal children or children with communication difficulties

  • Knowledge of alternative communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC etc.)

  • A patient, flexible and child-centred approach

  • Ability to build trust and form positive relationships

  • DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable:

  • Relevant TA qualification or training in SEND/communication support

  • Previous experience in a school or specialist provision
