Year 5 Teaching Assistant - Blackburn Primary School

A one form entry primary school located in the centre of Blackburn require a Year 5 Teaching Assistant to start from January 7th 2019. The role will be to work on a full time basis. The working hours will be 845-1530 each day. The role will continue for at least a term, until Easter, but it may also continue further until the end of the Summer term. The school were unsuccessful in their search for a candidate to take up this position and so they are using the temporary option to use Teaching Personnel.

The School does fall under the Salford Diocese and so there will be an element of upholding the Christian faith in school. You do not have to be a practising Catholic in order to be successful in this role. However, you must be able to work with the Curriculum to enhance the development and understanding of the Catholic faith.

Behaviour in school is considered to be GOOD. There are however a number of children throughout school who are considered to be 'challenging' and so it is important that the applying candidates are confident in applying a consistent behaviour policy. You will be well supported however by the Senior Leadership Team who have received positive comments in the recent Ofsted inspection in which the school received an overall GOOD grading.

The class in which you will be working is larger than average, with a mixture of 33 children and a variety of needs. There will be a number of children in that class who have English as an additional language and also special educational needs. You will be employed to work as a general teaching assistant but the class teacher will expect you to be actively involved in managing behaviour for individual children across the class. The member of staff who worked in this role previously relocated away from Blackburn and so the school have been keen to appoint a new member of staff who can support the children in their academic and social development.

This role will be advertised in the Summer as a Level 2 position. Therefore the school currently have funding for 6 hours per day at Level 2. The Head teacher has mentioned that they will be happy to receive applications from candidates who have level 2 or equivalent qualifications. Therefore, if you hold a degree in Education Studies or hold HLTA status then you will be considered for the role.
