Year 1 Teacher

Job description

A school in Harrogate have been in touch with Teaching Personnel as they require a Year 1 teacher until the end of the Winter Term 2020. As the current class teacher is off on maternity leave the school want someone who can take the class full-time, instead of the job share arrangement they had previously. The school is easily commutable by car or public transport; it is also relatively small in size as it is only 1 form entry throughout the school from Reception to Year 6. The school was graded as GOOD by Ofsted after their last inspection in 2017, and has consistently performed at this level. The Head has achieved this by maintaining high behavioural standards in the school, meaning that the working environment for teachers is very pleasant and manageable.

What the SLT are looking for…

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Classroom experience in Year 1
  • Able to travel to Harrogate (HG1)
  • Free full-time
  • Available to start in September (or as soon as school returns)

The main priority with this appointment from the school’s perspective is to get someone with experience of teaching Year 1 Phonics, as this is the primary way the progress of the children in this year group are tracked. The school currently use the Read Write Inc. programme, so any experience specifically with this programme would of course be incredibly valuable to the school, although experience with any equivalent programme would also be very useful. Other than this, the school are open-minded about who they would consider for the role, and are happy to accept NQTs as well as more experienced teachers for the role, provided they have some experience of Phonics. The school has a successful track record of nurturing and developing young teachers, thanks to the fact that the SLT are highly experienced and supportive where necessary. Therefore this would present a fantastic opportunity for any young teacher looking for a long-term role.
