Job description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people? Do you have the empathy, resilience, and experience to support Looked After Children in achieving their full educational potential? If so, we want to hear from you.

About the Role:

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate LAC Tutors to deliver 1:1 tuition to Looked After Children in the Sunderland area. Tuition may take place in schools, homes, or care settings, depending on the needs of the child. Sessions are tailored to individual learning levels and emotional needs, with a focus on both academic achievement and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, personalised tutoring sessions in core subjects (English, Maths, and/or Science)

  • Support emotional and social development alongside academic progress

  • Work collaboratively with Virtual School, social workers, and carers

  • Track and report on attendance, engagement, and progress

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people from a variety of backgrounds

About You:

  • Qualified teacher (QTS) or experienced tutor with relevant subject knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the challenges facing Looked After Children

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain)

  • Excellent communication and organisation skills

  • Flexibility to travel within Sunderland and deliver face-to-face tuition

Desirable:

  • Experience working with children in care, SEN, or alternative provision

  • Trauma-informed or safeguarding training

  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to suit individual learning needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
