Therapeutic Behaviour Support Practitioner
40 hours per week
The School:
This therapeutic school and residential home, works and supports vulnerable children who have faced complex trauma, neglect, and abuse and due to this, have often missed periods of education. All children have an EHCP and follow individualised learning plans and strategies. The children are working at different levels and follow a different curriculum based on play and therapy. The subjects are embedded within specific school focuses each term such as, an art and craft focus.
This school is based in the rural area of Arundel, it is surrounded by fields of green and animals. Their large grounds include a sensory garden, adventure playground, a cabin library, a therapy suite and a Forest School. The staff believe in children learning through play and embracing the outdoors to facilitate their love of learning.
Not only does this school believe strongly in supporting children but also, they know their staff work incredibly hard and deserve the best. Staff and children are provided with home cooked food every mealtime, from locally sourced shops and cooked by a professional chef daily. All staff also have a clinical therapist and are supported by all staff within the school.
The role-
Due to the nature of the children’s history, they often display challenging behaviour and therefore need a behaviour support practitioner who will show them unconditional support and love, that can remind them that it is okay to feel big emotions and help children re-build a love of learning and trust in others.
As a behaviour support practitioner, you will have;
- Experience working with or caring for children with Special Educational Needs and challenging behaviour.
- Commitment to understanding and supporting children with complex needs and providing unconditional support to them.
- A patient, kind and loving manner.
You will be responsible for:
- Advising and leading a small group and one-to-one behaviour support interventions across the school.
- In collaboration with others, develop and review Positive Handling plans for all children.
- As part of a team, be involved in the monitoring and signing off physical intervention records across the organisation.
- Understand and report on patterns of behaviour to inform the individual needs of the children and therapeutic interventions / input required.
- To maintain excellent training records and organisation with regards to training delivered and ensure this is clearly evidenced and certificate to staff are distributed once training completed.
- To ensure staff receive Team Teach training and refreshers in a timely manner and within set timescales.
- Be confident in delivering training, supporting, and upskilling employees in de-escalation and behaviour management strategies and techniques.
- To be part of our restraint reduction initiative, developing your skills and knowledge in terms of strategies aimed at reducing physical interventions across the community.
- Attendance at conferences and external and internal training that share such strategies and learnings from other organisations and communities.
- Integrate the training and behaviour management in line also with the school’s therapeutic model and ethos, working on the belief and theory that behaviour has meaning and often stems from the children’s previous traumatic experiences.
- To develop and improve the Team Teach training package and presentation to reflect the school's therapeutic ethos and model.
- To undertake risk assessments where necessary

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
