Part-time Teaching Assistant (SEND) – Boston Spa – September 2020

A special school in Boston Spa are seeking to appoint a part-time Teaching Assistant to commence 7th September 2020.

The school caters for 152 pupils aged 3-16 with a wide range of Special Educational Needs, including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.

Under the general supervision and direction of the teacher, your role as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be to plan and implement learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils. You will monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher(s) and establish supportive and constructive relationships with pupils, parents, and carers. 

Key duties:

  • Under the general supervision and direction of the teacher, implement structured learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils
  • Undertake activities to monitor the personal social and emotional needs of pupils
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils to promote pupil progress and attainment
  • Assist in the devising of pupil's individual targets and their monitoring and review
  • Support pupils as part of a planned inclusion programme 
  • Implement specific programmes with individual pupils or groups appropriate to the developmental needs of individual children throughout different curriculum areas
  • Assist in the development of varying skills that support pupils' learning
  • Assist in the specific medical care and individual needs of pupils (including personal care)
  • Assist in pupil supervision and assist in the management of pupil behaviour
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an atmosphere in which effective learning can take place

The successful applicant will be appointed on a temporary basis, for 3 days a week (flexible) for a minimum of one term (December 2020), however it is likely that this offer will be extended for the academic year.

Applications are encouraged from experienced Teaching Assistants, and those with personal or professional experience providing care or support for young people (or adults) with Special Educational Needs. The Headteacher is also keen to meet with aspiring teachers and recent graduates, in areas such as Performing Arts, Music, Sports Science, Child Development, Nursing, Psychology and/or Counselling.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
