Learning Support Assistant Role

Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit SEN Learning Support Assistants to work within a KS3-4 behavioural school in Liverpool. This is due to increased number of pupils being referred to the unit from mainstream schools and therefore increased class sizes. We are looking for people that are flexible and can work on a day to day basis for this school.

The rate of pay for this school is £9 per hour.

Learning Support Assistant - The School

Nearly all students attending our client school are permanently excluded from their mainstream schools, or are at risk of being permanently excluded. Students can be admitted at any time meaning numbers at the school fluctuate considerably. There are often around 5-8 students per class.

The pupils all have SEMH difficulties and the majority of pupils are very challenging. There is a high percentage of EAL in this school and some pupils have additional needs such as MLD.

Learning Support Assistant - Responsibilities

*To encourage pupils to join in with all activities and to take a full and active part in school life.

*To prepare, modify and adapt resources and learning materials for the pupil as agreed with the class teacher and other professionals.

*To assist in resolving any behavioural, social and emotional difficulties which may arise.

*To encourage the pupil to develop a positive self image, and to develop confidence in their abilities and communication with others.

Learning Support Assistant - Requirements

It is not essential to have worked in a school previously however working with secondary aged children in some capacity is preferred. There are no specific qualifications required in terms of Teaching Assistant qualifications but having behaviour management training such as Team-Teach or MAPA is highly desirable.

The type of person who usually gets on well in this type of environment usually comes from one of the following backgrounds: care services, prisons, youth workers, sports coaching and psychology. You need to be very resilient and not effected by foul and abusive language and behaviour.
