Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Teaching Personnel are the market leader in education recruitment and the Cornwall branch are currently looking to recruit Teaching Assistants. Your role will be to support in primary schools across the county.

How does Teaching Personnel work?

We support schools with their recruitment on both a day-to-day and longer term/permanent basis. Day-to-day supply cover consists of sickness, course cover and other short term absences. Longer term and permanent roles could be ongoing sicknesses, intervention, additional support or any other type of ongoing cover. With Teaching Personnel you can pick and choose where and when you work. You have a dedicated Recruitment Consultant who will take you through the recruitment process and be your port of call. Your RC will then actively find you work. You have access to an online system, including an online diary whereby you can update your availability.

What does a Teaching Assistant do?

Teaching assistants typically do the following:

  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
  • Enforce school and class rules to help teach students proper behaviour
  • Help teachers prepare for lessons by getting materials ready or setting up equipment, such as computers
  • Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and break

Generally, teachers introduce new material to students, and teaching assistants help reinforce the lessons by working with individual students or small groups of students. For example, after the teacher presents a lesson, a teaching assistant may help a small group of students as they try to master the material.

What do I need to become a Teaching Assistant?

Ideally we would prefer our candidates to have relevant qualifications, however the only qualifications that are essential are GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. Experience would be preferred but would do encourage applications from those with transferable skill sets such as Support Workers, Nurses, Childminders, Sport Coaches and others. All candidates must have a minimum availability of 2 days per week and be prepared to apply for a DBS, undergo vetting checks and provide reference details. We would prefer TAs to have experience and qualifications, however we are also open to talking to those who simply have the right attitude and work ethic. Experience supporting individuals with additional needs is desirable.

What do I do now?

If you would like to apply to be a Teaching Assistant, or to discuss in more detail how Teaching Personnel can support your career, please either call 01872 250123 or email a CV

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
