Job description

Teaching Assistants required to work at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) catering for Key Stage 3 and 4 students who face significant challenges in mainstream settings — including social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

The school is a trauma-informed, therapeutic-thinking school, committed to helping students re-engage with education, build resilience, and access a positive, tailored curriculum.

The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic, caring, and resilient Teaching Assistants to join our team. In this role, you will:

  • Support students in the classroom, working in both small groups and on a one-to-one basis
  • Help deliver differentiated learning activities tailored to individual student needs
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies in a nurturing way
  • Assist in implementing therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches alongside specialist staff
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, supporting their engagement and well‑being
  • Collaborate with teachers, mentors, and other professionals to create personalised learning plans
  • Encourage students to develop independence, life skills, and emotional resilience

Person Specification

Ideally, you will have:

  • A caring and empathetic nature, with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Patience, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative working style
  • Experience working with young people (especially SEMH or SEND)
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
