We are currently recruiting on behalf of an independent, BESD/SEMH Special School for boys with specific learning difficulties associated with learning delays or underachievement including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ASD, ADHD, OCD and mild auditory, visual and physical disabilities.
They are a small but close-knit community who seek to provide an excellent education within a secure and caring environment, where every child can feel safe and is valued as an individual. Everything they do is centred upon recognising the particular special and individual needs of each pupil, helping him to overcome his difficulties and to achieve his full potential.
This school is a fortnightly boarding and day school for boys age 5-13 who are experiencing complex difficulties that cannot be managed within a mainstream setting. Class groups are very small. Pupils are taught in mixed groups and receive a high level of individual assistance.
The school is highly structured with predictable routines. This helps all pupils but is particularly supportive of a growing number of children who have autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) including Asperger.s.
The successful Teaching Assistant will:
- Support the lead teacher and follow the routines, approaches and strategies as set out in individual pupils' plans.
- Support pupil's self-esteem, whilst delivering individual and small group literacy and numeracy, SRE and therapeutic led activities and lessons.
- Have previous experience supporting children or adults with the needs mentioned above.
- Be confident, adaptable and resilient
- Be able to build positive working relationships with pupils and other professionals
- Drive and have access to a vehicle as the school is not easily accessed by public transport
