Pay: £13.75 per hour

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for four passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a thriving secondary school in Southampton, starting in September. Due to the school’s commitment to professional development, several current Teaching Assistants are being put through teacher training, which is why these positions are now available. This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a supportive and dynamic team in a school that values its staff and provides excellent facilities.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting the all boys school with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will involve working with students who have a variety of learning and behavioural challenges, so the position can be demanding, but also incredibly rewarding. The school is very focused on giving each student the best chance to access the curriculum, and you will play a key role in helping them overcome barriers to learning.

You will be involved in:

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one and small group basis
  • Assisting in delivering tailored lessons to ensure every student can engage with the curriculum
  • Helping students develop strategies to manage their behaviour in a classroom setting
  • Encouraging students to stay motivated, engaged, and confident in their learning
  • Collaborating with teachers to ensure consistent support and communication for each student
  • Being flexible and proactive in handling day-to-day tasks and supporting any other aspects of school life, such as off-site learning and extracurricular activities

About You:

The school is looking for candidates who are:

  • Enthusiastic about teaching and learning, with a focus on helping students access the curriculum and achieve their potential
  • Proactive, confident, and willing to get stuck in with all aspects of the role, including supporting students with challenging behaviour
  • Able to handle challenging behaviour with patience, understanding, and a calm approach
  • Committed to making a positive difference in students' lives and helping them overcome challenges to their learning
  • Able to work well as part of a collaborative team, supporting both students and staff
  • A driver, if possible, to assist with any off-site learning opportunities (preferred but not essential)
  • Able to commit to full-time hours and a long-term role

Candidates must also have an enhanced child workforce DBS on the update service, or be willing to obtain one at their own cost.

Benefits of the Role:

  • Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
  • Full-Time, Temp to Perm Contract: The school offers the potential for a permanent position if you successfully integrate into the team and demonstrate your commitment
  • Professional Development: Access to fantastic opportunities for growth, with several staff members currently being supported through teacher training
  • Supportive Team: While the behaviour can be challenging, the school’s team is extremely supportive, and you’ll have colleagues to rely on
  • Great Facilities: The school offers excellent resources to help you support students and carry out your role effectively
  • Impactful Work: An opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people and help them overcome barriers to their learning

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who are proactive, passionate, and eager to support students with SEMH needs in an all-boys secondary school setting. If you’re ready to get involved, be part of a supportive team, and help students access their learning, we would love to hear from you!
