SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Immediate Start
Are you ready to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people who need it most?
We are looking for compassionate, proactive and resilient individuals to join a highly supportive secondary setting in New Milton as SEMH Teaching Assistants.
This is a full-time opportunity to start immediately, supporting students aged 11–16 with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a dynamic alternative provision.
Empower Students to Thrive
This specialist school offers a warm, inclusive, and restorative learning environment where staff work tirelessly to ensure every pupil is seen, heard, and supported.
The students face a range of barriers to learning, including anxiety, trauma, depression, and attachment difficulties. The dedicated team here focuses on re-engaging students with education through tailored, creative and trauma-informed teaching approaches that prioritise emotional wellbeing as much as academic progress.
You will be an integral part of this mission—working closely with students on a 1:1 and small group basis, supporting learning and helping them build the confidence and skills to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
What This Role Offers
This is not just another classroom role—it’s a chance to be part of a school that genuinely transforms lives.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, no two days will be the same. You’ll form positive relationships, act as a mentor, and work in partnership with teachers, pastoral leads and external professionals.
This is an environment where creativity, flexibility and emotional intelligence are just as important as classroom experience.
