A school in Central Harrogate has contacted Teaching Personnel in search of a TA to provide extra support across their KS1 classes.
The school in question need someone to work mornings or afternoons 5 days a week, as the rest of other TA working half-days is a retired ex-member of staff who is volunteering for the school until the Christmas holidays. She is flexible in whether she works morning or afternoons, so this will be dictated by the chosen candidate’s commitments. This role is initially until the Christmas holidays as this is when a full-time member of staff returns, although there is a chance that the school may keep the candidate on in a longer-term position if it goes well. The school is a very lively and positive environment to work, where the children are on the whole very polite and well-mannered to each other and to staff. The school require each member of staff to maintain this standard by sticking firmly to their behaviour policy, which is designed to isolate the incidents which do take place and minimise the effects this has on the attention and learning of the rest of the children.
The candidate
The SLT are looking for a versatile TA who is confident and competent across KS1 age groups, as they need a member of staff who can fill in where extra support and help is needed. Experience across a number of primary year groups would therefore be desirable for a school such as this. Predominantly, this role is general TA work supporting the class teacher by supplementing the learning of the class and making sure each child is focussed and on task. These classes do also have SEN children with EHCPs that sometimes require additional support or short periods outside of class, so the school want someone who is confident in administering this kind of support. The school are happy to accept graduate TAs for the role provided that they have some experience in KS1 classes.
