The Role:

As a General Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons to meet the diverse needs of students with SEN. Working closely with the SENCo and other staff members, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-on-one support to students with SEN, including those with autism, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and physical disabilities.
  • Assisting with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies to support student progress and well-being.
  • Supporting students during classroom activities, helping them to develop key skills in literacy, numeracy, communication, and social interaction.
  • Promoting independence and self-esteem among students, fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Collaborating with the teaching team and external professionals to assess student progress, identify areas for development, and implement targeted interventions.

Requirements:

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, preferably within a primary school or SEN setting.
  • A patient and compassionate approach to supporting children with diverse learning needs, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting the classroom teacher and contributing to the overall success of the school community.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills in response to the changing needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, SEN, or child development (desirable but not essential).
