Teaching Assistant for children with Autism (Male)

Teaching Personnel are looking for male teaching assistants to support with ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions) in specialist schools in Sheffield. You will be a positive role model for the children you support, promoting their academic achievements and personal developments. We are looking for teaching assistants for both Primary and Secondary aged children who are positive and versatile with a keen interest in supporting pupils of different learning levels.

The role involves:

  • Supporting children on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a calm and caring manner
  • Encouraging positive communication with pupils and building trusting relationships
  • You may be required to provide personal care for students who need it

Key Skills Required:

  • Qualified to Level 2 as a Teaching Assistant (or equivalent) OR have relevant experience/interest in working with children within an SEN setting or with Autism
  • Have an understanding of the National Curriculum
  • Have the confidence to address conflict and challenging behaviour, once trained
  • Be willing to work flexibly and constructively as part of a team

Previous experience working in a school is ideal, but not essential. If you have experience working with Autism in another setting such as a support worker, sports coach, private tutor or with family members then please get in touch.

By joining Teaching Personnel you will be supported throughout your career development. We run termly courses- such as Team Teach (teaching positive behaviour management and identifying triggers) and Moving and Handling (teaching safe movement of children in and around school)- which are recognised in schools. You will also have access to our online portal where you can book courses, update your work diary easily and access our Interview and Trial Day Preparation Guide. Pay is weekly and based on skills and experience, teaching assistants are typically paid between £57- £70 per day.
