Behaviour Specialist – Make a Real Difference

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a confident, resilient and experienced Behaviour Specialist to join a specialist SEMH school in Wallington, London.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, and who can build positive relationships while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.

The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils manage their behaviour, develop emotional regulation and engage positively with their education.

The Role

As a Behaviour Specialist, you will work closely with pupils, teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent support throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils with challenging and complex behaviours

• Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

• Implementing individual behaviour strategies and support plans

• De-escalating challenging situations calmly and effectively

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required

• Encouraging pupils to engage positively with learning

• Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence

• Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a consistent approach

• Promoting a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment

• Recording and communicating relevant behavioural information appropriately

About You

We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, patient and resilient, with the ability to remain composed when faced with challenging behaviour.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour

• Be confident managing and de-escalating challenging situations

• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Be consistent, patient and emotionally resilient

• Understand the importance of clear boundaries and positive reinforcement

• Be able to build rapport with pupils who may have had difficult experiences in education

• Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team

• Have a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people

Experience within an SEMH, SEN, PRU, alternative provision, specialist school or similar setting would be highly desirable.

We would also consider candidates from backgrounds such as youth work, residential care, sports coaching, mentoring, support work or similar roles, where they can demonstrate strong behaviour-management skills and a passion for working with young people.
