Teaching Assistant (ALN Support) – Secondary School – Cardiff
Trial Period: Summer Term 2025 | Permanent Start: September 2025

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive individual to work alongside our dedicated team, supporting pupils with ALN, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and other social, emotional, or communication needs.

The Role

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to students with ALN
  • Promote engagement, independence, and emotional well-being in the classroom
  • Collaborate with teachers, ALNCo, and external agencies to implement personalised learning plans (IDPs)
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that recognises and celebrates neurodiversity
  • Adapt resources and strategies to support pupils' sensory, communication, and behavioural needs

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants with experience or a keen interest in ALN and neurodiversity. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Patient and empathetic, with a genuine commitment to pupil-centred support
  • Calm under pressure, able to respond positively to challenging situations
  • A strong communicator, building trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Flexible and creative, using imaginative approaches to engage learners
  • Knowledgeable or eager to learn about Autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs, and trauma-informed practice
  • Passionate about equity, inclusion, and helping every child thrive

✅ Desirable Experience

  • Working with children/young people in an educational or support setting
  • Awareness of ALN frameworks and legislation (e.g., ALN Code for Wales)
  • Experience with communication aids, social stories, or behaviour support strategies

Key Details

  • Trial Period: Summer Term 2025 (dates to be confirmed)
  • Start Date: September 2025 (subject to successful trial)
  • Location: Cardiff
  • Hours: Term-time only, part-time and full-time options available
  • Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
