Teaching Personnel are seeking a British Sign Language Qualified Teaching Assistant to work in a Hillingdon Primary School. The role will commence full-time in April intially for the whole spring term with the potential for the right candidate to be taken onto a permenant contract. The successful candidate would be required to support a child with a hearing impairment access class lessons, learning materials, and communicate within day-to-day school life. Experience of supporting deaf individuals within a school setting is required and you must hold BSL at a minimum of level 2. Within this role, you would be supporting a child with their education by interpreting spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and adapting learning materials.

You will also:

- Take into account the needs of the pupil you are supporting
- Help the pupil communicate with others in class
- Support them by lip speaking and notetaking
- Interpret between spoken English and BSL
- Be creative in adapting learning materials as to make it accessible for the child
- Help students to produce written work
- Support learners in communicating with teachers
- Build relationships with the pupil and their family
- Develop ways of enabling the pupil to become more independent
- Provide deaf-awareness training for other staff and students
- Support the school in improving the environment for hearing aids and lipreading
