Speech and Language Teaching Assistant required

Our client schools in the Tameside are experiencing an increase in children who need support with speech and language. These schools are easily accessible from Manchester Piccadilly.

Teaching personnel is currently looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapists with a wealth of experience in Education, particularly Special Educational Needs Provision, experienced in dealing with a wide range of speech, language and communication disorders. Our client schools are experiencing and increase in children who need support with speech and language. This may include:

• speech and spoken language
• natural gestures and Makaton signing
• photos and picture symbols

Key things:

Therapists will work closely with Class Teachers, Occupational Therapists, external professionals and Learning Support Assistants to provide a whole school approach to improving the children's communication skills, and to support their learning. Therapists work collaboratively with teachers in curriculum planning and differentiation and provide in-house training across the school.

Therapists provide a detailed report highlighting each child's strengths and weaknesses and set individual therapy targets which are incorporated into their Individual Education Plans. Each child receives an intensive programme of therapy specifically targeted to their needs. Therapy is delivered through a combination of:

• Direct one to one work
• Paired or small group work
• Whole class group work run jointly with teachers
• Implementing strategies within the classroom
• Liaison with school staff regarding the management and generalisation of therapy targets
• Supporting additional classroom activities, outings and assemblies
