About the role-
We are looking for a SEN Teacher who has specialised in behavioural support for learners with ALN to join our multidisciplinary team at our award-winning SEN school. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who wish to further develop their skills in the SEN sector.
The successful candidate will support and deliver learning across the curriculum, working with pupils aged 3-19 years old who may display challenging behaviours, have social communication needs, or experience difficulties with emotional regulation. Central to this role is the ability to establish a calm, nurturing, and well‑structured learning environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and motivated to participate.
Applicants should have experience using positive behaviour support strategies, trauma‑informed approaches, or therapeutic practices that foster emotional wellbeing and promote inclusion. The school’s ethos focuses on developing confident, resilient individuals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to society and shapes both classroom practice and the wider school culture.
This is a highly rewarding position for a teacher who is committed to forming strong relationships, encouraging positive behaviour, and helping every pupil achieve their academic and social potential.
Requirements-
- Individuals must have experience teaching alongside ALN or in a SEN setting.
- Individuals with experience teaching in SEN schools.
- Individuals with a coherent and in-depth understanding of ALN and how to carter to them via independent learning plans.
- Educators who create fun and exciting environments where learning and self-exploration can take place.
- Individuals who remain calm under pressure and who are highly empathetic during challenging situations.
- Teachers who can support their fellow members of staff and lead by example in their behaviour and attitude throughout the school.
- Hold a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
About the School-
The school is located in Penarth, with additional campuses across Barry and Cardiff. It supports approximately 500 pupils aged 3–19, all of whom have Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including ASD, PMLD, ODD, SEMH, and physical disabilities.
Although the environment is fast‑paced, staff benefit from strong teamwork and the guidance of a highly supportive Headteacher. The school is award‑winning and widely recognised for its innovative use of technology to enhance learning and improve pupil engagement.
In addition to a broad and engaging curriculum, pupils take part in regular outdoor and community‑based activities that help build confidence and prepare them for life beyond school. The school is equally dedicated to staff development, offering ongoing training and clear pathways for career progression within SEN education.
