Special Needs Teaching Assistant - Shipley

Special School in Shipley require a full time enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant.

Teaching Personnel are seeking a Teaching Assistant on a full time basis to work within a Special School located in Shipley which caters for pupils aged 3-18 with additional learning needs. This is initially a temporary position, covering a maternity leave. Following a successful probationary period, you will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent role within school.

The successful candidate will complete a strong team and will contribute to the school's existing success (Ofsted Outstanding in 2017). We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant who is able to relate well to young people with a range of complex needs including Severe Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Physical Disabilities and Speech, Language and Communication Needs. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of teaching staff, psychologists, medical staff and therapists.

The successful applicant will provide high quality support for the learning, personal care, communication and physical needs of students, working across a range of ages and abilities (2-19). You will ideally have prior experience of managing challenging behaviour with a willingness to develop this further. You may also possess a Team Teach or equivalent training certificate. Teaching assistants also contribute towards students' formal and informal assessment and help build effective relationships between home and school.

  • The ability to be firm when necessary
  • Willingness to help with pupils' personal care needs

In addition to experienced Teaching Assistants, we will also consider applications from those with a background in Health and Social Care, Autism Support, Psychology, Education Studies, and/or Social Work.
