Teaching Personnel are seeking an experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SENTA) for a full time role at a special school in Knaresborough. This role will commence in January 2019 and you will be required until July 2019 in the first instance, although there will be an opportunity to apply for a permanent post within school.

Our partnering client is situated in the heart of Knaresborough, a market and spa town and civil parish in the Borough of Harrogate. The school benefits from good links by public transport as well as being easy to access by car from the surrounding areas of Leeds and York.

The school is a Specialist College for Communication and Interaction and this is a key aspect of the work that they do. Pupils attend from 3-16, and join school with a wide range of challenges in their lives. Presently, the school has pupils with Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, complex medical needs, Downs Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Physical Disabilities, and Autism. All children have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) and 94% of pupils have additional Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

You will work as part of a dedicated team of teachers and Learning Support staff whose aim is that all pupils become confident as individuals, responsible as citizens and successful as learners. You will play a key role in supporting young people to develop lasting friendships with their peers whilst sharing their learning journeys. You will have the ability to foster a passion for learning and will encourage pupils to respect themselves and others as they strive for excellence in all that they do both academically and personally.

Previous experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs is essential. You must have a working knowledge of differentiating learning activities to meet individual pupil needs. Additional training in Team Teach, Intensive Interaction, PECs, Makaton and/or Theraplay is also desired.

For more information, or to apply for this Special Needs Teaching Assistant role, please contact Rebecca Holden on the details provided.
