Special Needs Teaching Assistant

A special school in Bradford (BD9) are seeking a full time Teaching Assistant this term.

The successful applicant will support pupils aged 3-19 with additional learning needs including Autism, Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. You will work across school, supporting pupils to access learning, and providing assistance to class teachers to implement specific activities and develop pupils’ skills across a range of areas.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Guiding the development of children’s social behaviour and attitudes
• Frequently supervising children on activities without a teacher present  including outdoor activities
• Observing and assessing children’s development and progress
• Keeping accurate records of observation, assessment and development of children
• Acting as a key worker for individual or groups of pupils
• Organising materials and equipment for use within the classroom
• Sharing responsibility for care and maintenance of resources and equipment
• Contributing to curriculum development,  ensuring a stimulating and engaging learning environment
• Taking responsibility for specific activities already planned for
• Taking on other tasks such as lunchtime supervision
• Attend weekly staff  and planning meetings
• Establishing good relationships with parents and carers
• Encourage parents and carers to be involved in the setting and their children’s learning

You will also work closely with other key professionals to implement programmes in Speech and Language Therapy, Rebound Therapy, Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy. You may also be required to administer medication for pupils with medical needs, and attend to pupils’ personal care needs where appropriate.

We are seeking individuals with experience supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs, either personally or professionally and who are seeking a long term career within Special Needs education. Applications will also be considered from individuals with relevant, transferrable training or qualifications such as: Education Studies, Social Work, Youth Work, Sociology, Psychology and/or Sports Science.
