Job Advert – SEMH Support Worker (Primary Education)
Location: Skelmersdale
Contract: Temporary to Permanent (with the opportunity to begin on an ad-hoc basis)
Start Date: ASAP

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you want to make a real difference to children’s lives and help them thrive in school? We are currently looking for a dedicated and empathetic SEMH Support Worker to join a supportive primary school setting, working with pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The Role:

As an SEMH Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs

  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and external agencies

  • Support pupils with developing social skills, resilience and confidence

  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual EHCP outcomes

  • Monitor progress and contribute to review meetings and written reports

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs (in education, care, youth work or similar)

  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach

  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Resilience, reliability and flexibility

  • Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and helping them succeed

  • Training in safeguarding, Team Teach or similar is advantageous but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
