Job Advert: SEND Support Teaching Assistant

Mainstream Primary School – Preston (PR1)
Start Date: November 2025
Contract: Fixed Term (Full Academic Year)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:20pm (Term Time Only)
Pay: £13.75 per hour (paid weekly)

The Head Teacher of a welcoming mainstream primary school in Preston (PR1) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND from November 2025. This is a full academic year, term-time-only position that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational journey.


About the Role:

You will be working on a one-to-one basis with a pupil who has additional learning and/or behavioural needs, providing consistent and structured support throughout the school day. The role involves assisting with access to learning, emotional regulation, and social inclusion.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with SEND, especially within EYFS, KS1 or lower KS2 settings. You’ll be part of a nurturing and inclusive school environment where every child’s individual progress is valued and supported.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND, both in and out of the classroom
  • Implement tailored strategies and support plans under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Adapt activities and resources to suit the pupil’s individual needs and learning style
  • Support the development of communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
  • Encourage independence while promoting inclusion in all aspects of school life
  • Monitor and record progress, behaviour and engagement accurately and consistently
  • Contribute to a calm, supportive and positive learning environment

Essential Requirements:

  • A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience in a UK mainstream classroom setting
  • A sound understanding of how to support pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Patience, empathy and a nurturing approach to behaviour and learning support
  • Strong communication and teamworking skills
  • The ability to work flexibly and independently, while following guidance from teaching and SEN staff
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
