SEND Secondary 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Area: Rochdale
Start: ASAP
Hours: Monday–Friday, Term Time
Contract: Long-term (with potential for permanent placement)

We are currently recruiting a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work within a secondary school setting, providing dedicated support to an individual pupil with additional needs.

This role involves supporting a pupil on a one-to-one basis throughout the school day, helping them to access learning, manage behaviour and emotions and develop confidence within the classroom environment. The pupil may present with needs such as Autism, SEMH, ADHD, communication difficulties or learning needs.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a secondary-aged pupil during lessons and transitions
  • Supporting access to the curriculum by adapting tasks and instructions
  • Assisting with emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Encouraging engagement, independence and positive learning behaviours
  • Supporting the pupil during unstructured times such as break and lunch
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team
  • Following EHCP targets and individual support plans

This Role Would Suit Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (school-based or transferable experience)
  • Is calm, consistent and confident building positive relationships
  • Can manage challenging behaviour in a supportive and proactive way
  • Is reliable, adaptable and committed to safeguarding
  • Is keen to gain or further develop experience within SEND or secondary education

Experience within a school or SEND setting is desirable but not essential — training and support will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
