About the Role

We are working in partnership with a highly supportive and well‑resourced secondary SEN school in the Rochdale area, who are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and resilient Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately.

This is a full‑time position supporting pupils aged 11–19 with autism and severe learning difficulties. The school prides itself on providing a nurturing, structured and person‑centred environment where every young person is supported to achieve their potential both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with autism and severe learning difficulties in both classroom and small‑group environments.
  • Delivering tailored support plans under the direction of class teachers and the SENCO.
  • Using communication systems such as PECS, visual timetables, or other structured approaches.
  • Promoting emotional regulation, independence, and social development.
  • Supporting personal care where required.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent and high‑quality provision.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you are:

  • Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Patient, positive, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Experienced working with autism or complex needs in schools, care settings, youth work, or similar environments.
  • Able to commit to a full‑time role, Monday to Friday.
  • Willing to undertake additional training and professional development.

An enhanced DBS on the update service is preferred, but we can support with a new application if needed.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
