Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary SEN school in Rochdale for a committed and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health SEMH needs and significant behavioural challenges.
This is a full time, long term position with an immediate start, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced, supportive environment and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one to one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behaviour needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them regulate emotions
- Support behaviour plans, de escalation, and daily routines
- Encourage engagement, resilience, and positive choices
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a safe and structured environment
- Promote emotional wellbeing, consistency, and personalised support throughout the school day
Requirements
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- Background in youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision, or similar
- Calm, confident, patient, and able to manage difficult situations professionally
- Full time availability, Monday to Friday
- Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
