Job description
We are partnering with a well‑established Pupil Referral Unit in Rochdale that supports young people who cannot currently access mainstream education due to behavioural challenges, personal crisis, medical needs, or other complex circumstances. Learners often require intensive emotional, behavioural, and academic support to help them re‑engage positively with education.
Every pupil receives a fresh start through personalised assessment, targeted interventions, and a curriculum designed to build both academic skills and essential life skills.
The Role
We are seeking resilient, empathetic and proactive Behaviour Mentors to join this dynamic alternative provision team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting young people who need structured, consistent, and compassionate behaviour support.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group behaviour mentoring
- Supporting pupils in regulating emotions and managing challenging behaviours
- Acting as a trusted adult for young people facing personal crisis or emotional distress
- Encouraging positive routines, attendance, engagement and self‑discipline
- Reinforcing clear expectations while maintaining empathy and respect
- Working closely with teaching staff, safeguarding teams and multi‑agency professionals
- Supporting pupils to reintegrate successfully into education pathways, including mainstream where appropriate
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experienced in behaviour mentoring, youth work, mental‑health support, or PRU/SEND environments
- Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and confident with de‑escalation strategies
- Able to build trust and rapport with vulnerable young people
- Skilled in supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Passionate about re‑engagement, personal growth, and giving pupils a new start
- Collaborative and able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
