SEN Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting on behalf of a client school in the Christchurch area, for a full time Teaching Assistant in an excellent Secondary School, to commence in January! 

 To succeed in this role you will need the following:

  • An interest in education and in working with children
  • A responsible attitude
  • Good communication and 'people' skills
  • Tact and sensitivity
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Patience

Your work as a teaching assistant would depend on the age of the children and their individual needs, but would typically involve:

  • Supporting schoolwork under the supervision of the teacher
  • Encouraging children's confidence, self esteem and independence
  • Helping children understand instructions, through repetition, re-phrasing or demonstrating
  • Providing feedback and assistance to teachers
