SEN Teaching Assistant

Date posted : 22/01/20
£24,373 - 40,490 per year

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

An opportunity has arisen at a school in Stockport for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join the support staff on a temporary basis. The role presents itself as the ideal opportunity for an applicant who is looking to begin a career within the education sector. A relevant qualification with regards to SEN is desirable, though by no means essential.  Those who have prior experience in working within a secondary school are urged to apply, as well as those who have gained experience working with young people in other vocations. Those who have managed children in either a youth/community setting, as well as a sports coaching capacity are also urged to apply. As this role is to work within the SEN department, it is crucial that the required applicant will be able to understand the complexities within the learning process often faced by children. Examples are as follows:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Aspergers
  • Dyslexia/Dyspraxia
  • Sensory difficulties
  • Challenging behaviours

Key aspects of working at this school include:

  • Being part of a school ranked as ‘Good’. It is imperative to note that after the most recent inspection (2019) that children with SEN are making “good progress.”
  • The SEN Co-Ordinator at the school has produced effective support for teachers, to allow for clearer understanding of the needs of those with SEN, and has received praise from Ofsted for this.
  • The proportion of SEN pupils who are regularly absent from school is above the national average. Bearing this in mind,  this is the perfect opportunity for someone to try and readily improve this statistic.
  • Every child has a programme of personal development and welfare, which again has been complimented by Ofsted.
  • Regular training allows teachers to be able to improve their knowledge of managing pupils who require SEN support.

The role will be for a full term, from after the Easter break running until the end of the academic year.

The school’s location in Stockport means it is just a short distance from Manchester city centre. The M60 motorway is located close by, meaning ease of access for those that drive. Additionally, there are several public transport links also in close proximity to the school itself. For further information regarding this role, please contact the Manchester South Secondary branch at Teaching Personnel .

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training.
