Teaching Assistant – Behaviour Support Focus (Secondary School)

Location: South Shields
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP / Negotiable

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic secondary school team in South Shields. This full-time role focuses on behaviour support, providing crucial assistance to students who face emotional or behavioural challenges.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside teachers and the pastoral team to provide targeted support for students who require additional help to fully engage in their learning. You will play an essential role in promoting positive behaviour and supporting students' academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions for students with behavioural needs
  • Support classroom activities and behaviour management strategies
  • Assist in the implementation of personalised behaviour plans
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support student progress

About You:

  • Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour (preferred)
  • Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach
  • Confident communication and effective de-escalation skills
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with professionalism
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3) are advantageous, though not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
